Elisabeth Sami is Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development for the NBCUniversal News Group, a position she has held since 2012. Sami is responsible for developing growth strategies and recommendations on potential strategic M&A and partnership transactions for NBC News’ global TV and digital businesses. She also oversees NBC Learn, NBC News’ education production and distribution business and NBC Archives.
Previously, Sami served as Senior Vice President of Global Business Development at CNBC where she was responsible for driving CNBC’s growth through organic initiatives, strategic partnerships and investments on a global basis. Responsible for CNBC’s digital strategy, Sami led the launch of CNBC.com in 2007 by executing several key transactions, which helped the site to become the fastest growing business and financial news site and reach profitability within two years. These included key digital partnerships with MSN, Yahoo, AOL, The New York Times and LinkedIn. Upon joining CNBC in October 2005, Sami led the re-acquisition of the 50% equity in CNBC Europe and CNBC Asia held by Dow Jones. Sami joined CNBC as Vice President of Global Business Development reporting to Mark Hoffman, President of CNBC.
Before joining CNBC, Sami held various positions at NBC since joining in 1997. She served as Vice President of Corporate Development for NBC Universal where she was responsible for acquiring a cable channel in Germany and restructuring the MSNBC Cable joint venture with Microsoft. Sami also served on the MSNBC.com Board of Directors from 2003 until 2008. Prior to that, Sami worked for NBC Digital Media Group where she closed several venture investments, managed NBC’s investment portfolio, and negotiated strategic partnerships for the company. Shortly after joining the company, Sami moved to Los Angeles to run Business Development for NBC West Coast and to launch a video, publishing and consumer products business.
Before joining NBC, Sami was Vice President of International Business Development at Discovery Communications, Inc. where she developed business plans for Discovery Asia and Latin America. She was part of the Discovery Channel Asia launch team and spent three years running business development for Discovery Communications in Hong Kong. Sami began her career at the investment consulting firm, The Bancroft Group.
Sami received a graduate degree in international affairs from Stockholm University and holds a bachelor's degree from The University of Iowa. She lives in New York City with her husband, daughter, and son.
