More Than Doubles FOX News’ Growth
NEW YORK (July 1, 2020) – “Morning Joe” delivered MSNBC’s best audience performance among total viewers in the 6am-9am time slot and dominated CNN for the 2nd quarter of 2020, according to Nielsen.
Hosted by Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist, “Morning Joe” drew a record 1.4M total viewers (vs. CNN’s 647K), eclipsing CNN with its largest lead among total viewers. This marked the 21st straight quarter that “Morning Joe” has topped CNN.
“Morning Joe” more than doubled FOX News’ growth, increasing +31% (vs. FOX News’ +13%) compared to 2Q19.
In A25-54, “Morning Joe” averaged 219K viewers, achieving the highest-rated quarter since 3Q18. The show increased A25-54 viewership by +34% compared to 2Q19, also more than doubling FOX News’ growth (+13%).
For the month of June, “Morning Joe” ranked #2 in the time period for the 64th month in a row averaging 1.36M total viewers – tying the month rating record from April 2020 (vs. CNN’s 665K) and grew more than FOX News, growing +34% over June 2019 in total viewers while FOX News only added +13% compared to June 2019.In A25-54, “Morning Joe” ranked #2 for the 32nd month in a row averaging 219K viewers (vs. CNN’s 169K) growing +44% over June 2019, more than double FOX News’ growth at +18%.
Throughout the quarter, “Morning Joe’s” breaking news and analysis drove the show’s record-setting numbers including “Morning Joe’s Special Report: Isolation Nation,” an entire show dedicated to the coronavirus pandemic featuring the nation’s top experts.
