October 8, 2020 – Dateline NBC will air a special one-hour broadcast this Monday at 10pm ET/9pm CT on the mysterious disappearance of Carole Baskin’s husband, Don Lewis. The case recently gained renewed worldwide attention following Baskin’s participation in the Netflix docuseries, Tiger King, which made her a household name.
What Happened to Don Lewis will feature Dateline correspondent Josh Mankiewicz’s report on Lewis, who vanished in 1997 while preparing for a trip to Costa Rica. Baskin has denied any wrongdoing and has never been charged with anything related to her husband’s disappearance.
The one-hour special will include never-before-seen footage of Dateline’s interview with Baskin in 1998 about her animal park. At the time, she described the last day she saw Lewis alive, telling Dateline:“My husband left early in the morning and said that he wanted me to get a truck ready, that he was gonna be driving down to Miami to put on the freight cargo down to Costa Rica the next day.” She added: “When he didn't come home the rest of the night, then we turned him in as a missing person. And we haven't seen or heard anything since then.”
