Orlando, FL – (January 5, 2021) – Telemundo31, Telemundo’s owned station that reports for Central Florida’s Spanish-speaking audiences, today announced that Miguelangel Lopez has been named Vice President of News. In this role, Lopez will be responsible for overseeing the station’s multi-platform news operations and performance. He will report to Migdalia Figueroa, President and General Manager of Telemundo31. His first day at WTMO will be January 25.

A 12-time regional Lone Star Emmy® Award winner and a twenty-year veteran news professional, Lopez joins WTMO from KTLM in the Rio Grande Valley where he worked as Vice President of News since 2014. At KTLM, Lopez oversaw the launch of the station’s consumer investigative unit that has returned millions of dollars to consumers as well as the news team’s coverage of national breaking news stories including the humanitarian crisis in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, México and the separation of families across the border including the Rio Grande Valley. During his tenure, KTLM’s news team has won prestigious journalism awards including a National News Emmy, Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards and First Amendment Awards from the Society of Professional Journalists, among others. In addition to his local broadcast experience, Lopez has also worked for Telemundo Network in various producer roles with increasing responsibility for the Network’s award-winning morning show, Un Nuevo Día.

Born and raised in Puerto Rico, Lopez launched his career in television more than twenty years ago as host for several Puerto Rican shows including Día a Dia. He will be relocating to Central Florida.
