NEW YORK, NY – (May 22, 2020) – The Local Media Association has recognized NBC 4 New York/WNBC with the Local Media Digital Innovation Award for Best Social Media Strategy for its Instagram feature Listen Up, hosted by Kay Angrum. This award recognizes the most successful and creative plans when using social media to expand an audience and heighten excitement. The Local Media Association recognizes digital media companies in 11 different categories, consisting of a pool of over 3,000 local media outlets, both large and small, nationwide. The LMA awards are judged by Director of Digital Innovation, Prof. Rich Gordon, of the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University, other staff members and a group of graduate students, all who review and determine the award winners.

The Local Media Association described Listen Up as, “a daily digital news and lifestyle show geared toward millennials, does a great job of engaging the audience. There’s a little bit of everything: weather, entertainment and news. Effective use of Instagram.”

“Our digital team is full of innovative and creative talent, I’m thrilled they have been recognized by such a prestigious group. They continue to keep pushing the limits in the ever-changing medium that is social media. Their work is impressive, and this is a well-deserved honor for the team,” said Ben Berkowitz, Vice President of Digital for NBC 4 New York/WNBC and Telemundo 47/WNJU.
