NBC Bay Area to televise Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition Tournament from eSports Arena in Oakland

The station will also debut “The Evolution of Games” a documentary about the gaming industry in the Bay Area

SAN JOSE, CA – (February 28, 2019) – NBC Bay Area / KNTV is teaming up with Esports Arena and Capcom Media Ventures to host Saturday Fight Night Live, a Street Fighter® V: Arcade Edition tournament on Saturday, March 9.

Esports Arena is the first dedicated esports facility in the US with eight locations country wide. Their two California locations will go head to head in a heated NorCal v. SoCal rivalry, with competitors coming from Oakland’s Jack London Square and Santa Ana’s downtown district.

“What an incredible opportunity to finally settle the long debate of which is better in the fighting game community, NorCal or SoCal,” said Tyler Endres, CEO of Esports Arena. “I’m looking forward to watching the best from both regions battle it out over some intense games of Street Fighter.”

Live coverage of the tournament begins at 9 p.m. PT on twitch.tv/esportsarena, twitch.tv/leveluplive, and nbcbayarea.com. The rivalry will be settled immediately following an all-new Saturday Night Live, during the championship round on NBC Bay Area and on NBC 4 Southern California at 1 a.m.

NBC Bay Area’s Mike Inouye (@MikeyNoWay) will host alongside gaming reporter Kelly Link (@HelloKellyLink). This broadcast is a Bay Area first, highlighting the rise of esports in our communities.

Earlier that evening NBC Bay Area will premiere The Evolution of Games at 10 p.m. PT, the most recent installment of its Emmy Award-winning series Bay Area Revelations. The one-hour special takes a look at how the Bay Area has helped make video games a worldwide phenomenon and continues to be the epicenter for technology and innovation in gaming action today.
