PHILADELPHIA (May 22, 2019) – NBC10 / WCAU announced it has been recognized by the Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) with a 2019 Regional Edward R. Murrow Award, recognizing the station in the category of Excellence in Multimedia. The station also earned three Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters (PAB) awards in the categories of Outstanding Television Promotional Announcement/Contest/Series, Outstanding Use of Digital Media, and the Judges’ Merit Award for Television. The awards were announced in late April and honor the leading journalists and broadcasters in the area for their top-notch efforts in radio, television and digital news.

Regional Edward R. Murrow Awards

  • Excellence in Multimedia – Recognizing NBC10 Philadelphia’s robust digital work, this is the fifth consecutive year that the television station has been honored with the Regional Murrow Award for its digital efforts. Winning the award means NBC10 Philadelphia is also under consideration for a National Murrow Award. In 2017, the news station was honored with the National Murrow Award for Excellence in Innovation for its digital and broadcast series, “Generation Addicted.” In 2016, the station won the National Murrow Award for best website.

Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Awards

  • Outstanding Television Promotional Announcement/Contest/Series – This award highlights NBC10 Philadelphia’s First Alert Weather promotional content. The station currently has most accurate weather forecast in the region four years running.
  • Outstanding Use of Digital Media – NBC10 Philadelphia’s use of digital media for its investigative report, SEPTA Crime, earned the station this award. According to a PAB representative, the station strategically utilized its website and social media platforms to best inform its audience of SEPTA crimes and how to travel safely.
  • Judges’ Merit Award for Television – According to Gail Ponti, PAB’s Vice President of Member Services, the story of Jude’s Journey was selected for this award because it moved the judges with its compelling narrative and journalistic efforts.

RTDNA has recognized outstanding achievements in electronic journalism since 1971. This year, RTDNA awarded more than 720 regional Edward R. Murrow Awards in 16 categories, including Overall Excellence, Breaking News, Investigative Reporting, and Excellence in Innovation. National winners will be announced in June 2019.

PAB, the oldest state broadcast association in the country, aims to promote collaboration between radio and broadcast stations across Pennsylvania. The PAB Awards of Excellence honor the best in radio and television broadcasting across the state.
