s La Reina del Sur Season 2 was awarded an International Emmy® Award in the Best Non-English Language U.S. Primetime Program category. The 48th International Emmy® Awards Gala took place today in a live ceremony hosted by actor Richard Kind in New York City. The event, which presented awards across 11 international categories, included the participation of on-camera talent and television media industry executives from across the globe.

Starring international star Kate del Castillo, season two of La Reina del Sur was shot on location in eight different countries. The story picks up eight years after powerful drug trafficker Teresa Mendoza disappeared into the U.S. Federal Witness Protection Program after bringing down Mexican presidential candidate Epifanio Vargas. She now lives in total anonymity as “María Dantes,” peacefully raising her daughter Sofia in the Tuscan village of Massa Marittima in Italy. However, her life takes an unexpected turn, and she will do the impossible to reclaim her throne as La Reina del Sur.
