TELEMUNDO LAS VEGAS UNVEILS NEW, STATE-OF-THE-ART MEDIA CENTER AND STUDIO

KBLR is the only TV station in Las Vegas to use a virtualized architecture to host its news and production infrastructure, and a news system that provides increased collaboration across multiple news platforms, including social media

LAS VEGAS – (September 24, 2019) – Telemundo Las Vegas / KBLR unveiled its new, 22,622 square-foot media center yesterday, during the station’s 5 PM weekday edition of “Noticiero Telemundo Las Vegas” giving audiences an inside look at the new studio and building. At launch, KBLR is the first NBCUniversal-owned station to have its news and production infrastructure hosted by a private cloud system built exclusively by NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, the division of NBCUniversal that includes 42 NBC/Telemundo owned stations, including KBLR. Telemundo Las Vegas also launched with the “Ross Inception Newsroom System” an advanced newsroom tool that improves news gathering and content publishing across multiple platforms including social media.

KBLR’s new facility is located at 6380 Polaris Avenue, south from Allegiant Stadium, the soon-to-be-home of the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders. KBLR delivers more than 10 hours of live and locally-produced news programming to Southern Nevada’s Hispanic audiences every week, more than any other Spanish-language TV stations in the market.

“Our new facility honors our longstanding commitment of serving our Las Vegas’ Spanish-speaking communities and raises the bar for local broadcasting in our market and industry. We are proud to present our new facility to our audiences,” said Ramiro Lopez, President and General Manager, Telemundo Las Vegas.

KBLR’s new media center features:

  • Open Space Layout: A bright and open-space newsroom area that includes dedicated desk ‘pods’ for the KBLR news team, with the layout facilitating increased work collaboration and exchange of information. The facility also features Wi-Fi access throughout, flex-work spaces, phone rooms, a parents’ quiet room, and men/women’s bathrooms with changing tables, among others.
  • New Studio: Telemundo Las Vegas’s new facility features a new, modern studio with a 12’x7’ LED array, a new anchor desk, a dedicated weather center, robotic cameras, and new production control rooms.
  • Advanced Newsroom Technology: KBLR is the first NBCUniversal-owned television station to have their news/production infrastructure hosted remotely in an off-site data technology center in Dallas, where sister-stations KXAS/KXTX are located, through the use of a private cloud system built exclusive for NBCUniversal-owned TV stations. KBLR also uses the “Ross Inception Newsroom System” an advanced newsroom tool that improves news gathering and content publishing across multiple platforms including social media.
  • Energy Efficiency: The facility was designed to be energy efficient and includes several conservation features. New RTUs or roof top units conserve electricity and solar tubes provide the facility with natural light. LED lighting is also used throughout the building and within the new studio. All displays and computers are Energy Star compliant.

The debut of Telemundo Las Vegas’ new facility follows the unveiling of eight other new or revamped local TV station facilities by NBC and Telemundo owned stations in Los Angeles (KNBC/KVEA) Dallas-Fort Worth (KXAS/KXTX), West Hartford (WVIT/WRDM), Denver (KDEN), San Antonio (KVDA), McAllen (KTLM) , San Diego (KNSD/KUAN), and Philadelphia (WCAU/WWSI) with the NBCUniversal Boston Media Center set to open soon. Telemundo Las Vegas is part of NBCUniversal Owned Television Stations, a division of NBCUniversal.
