Telemundo Deportes Commentator Andres Cantor Won the Outstanding On-Air Personality in Spanish Award, His Sixth Sports Emmy

MIAMI – November 17, 2020 – Telemundo won two prestigious national Emmy Awards tonight during the “Los Emmys en Español” virtual award ceremony hosted by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS). The award ceremony recognized outstanding achievement in Spanish-language TV in the broadcast categories of daytime, news and sports programming.

Telemundo’s Emmy Award winners include:


  • Noticias Telemundo was awarded a News and Documentary Emmy award in the category of Outstanding Investigative Journalism in Spanish for “Los Niños Perdidos De Guatemala,” a probing look at human trafficking in Guatemala where thousands of Guatemalan babies have been stolen or sold. In a gripping story, Grace Gonzalez of Noticias Telemundo’s investigative unit, Noticias Telemundo Investiga, spoke with Guatemalans who were taken as babies and are now adults searching for their biological parents.


  • Telemundo Deportes’ famed commentator Andrés Cantor was recognized with the Outstanding On-Air Personality in Spanish award, earning his sixth Emmy. Andres Cantor’s Emmy win recognizes his outstanding work during Telemundo’s coverage of FIFA Women’s World Cup France, in addition to the 2019 Copa America in Brazil and his extensive contributions to the network’s coverage of Premier League and other events and sports news via Telemundo’s documentary series, “Que Momento.” Traveling between France, Miami and Brazil during Telemundo’s 2019 “Summer of Soccer,” Andres Cantor played a pivotal role in Telemundo’s coverage of some of 2019’s most important moments in sports, simultaneously spearheading coverage for two tournaments across two continents.
