Ellie Kemper is best known for her portrayal of the naïve Dunder Mifflin receptionist Erin Hannon for four seasons on NBC's "The Office." Since "The Office," Kemper’s career has expanded in both film and television. She is currently seen starring in Netflix’s new half-hour comedy "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," portraying a woman who escapes from a doomsday cult and starts life again in New York City. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is produced and co-created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.
In 2014, Kemper co-starred as the prissy Allison opposite Keira Knightley in Lynn Shelton’s "Laggies," as well as one half of Cameron Diaz and Jason Segel’s best friends in Sony’s "Sex Tape." She also appeared in David Wain’s "They Came Together," opposite Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd.
Kemper also had memorable appearances as a surly waitress in 2013’s "Identity Thief" opposite Jason Bateman and Melissa McCarthy, and as the hot and bothered high school teacher Ms. Griggs in 2012’s "21 Jump Street" with Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill.
In 2011, Kemper received much attention for her co-starring role as Becca, the prim, Disney-obsessed bridesmaid in Universal’s box office smash "Bridesmaids," opposite Kristen Wiig, and produced by Paul Feig and Judd Apatow. Kemper and the cast found critical acclaim and were nominated for a SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and a Broadcast Film Critics’ Award for Best Acting Ensemble. The film went on to win Best Comedy at the BCFA’s in 2012 and was also nominated for a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
Kemper first gained-attention with her one-woman show, "Feeling Sad/Mad”, at the Upright Citizens Brigade and has worked with the popular publications The Onion and McSweeney's. In 2009, she was named one of Variety’s “10 Comics to Watch”.
Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, Kemper attended Princeton University and splits her time between Los Angeles and New York with her husband.
