Hyo Joo Han plays SoYun, a wife and mother who must make difficult choices that compromise her quiet family life in North Korea after she starts to learn about her own secret past.
Han is a television and film actor who has solidified her position as being one of Asia’s top stars. In 2005, Han started her acting career in television landing a starring role in the Korean sitcom “Nonstop.” Additional early TV projects include “Spring Waltz,” “Heaven and Earth” and “Iljimae.”
Han’s breakthrough came in 2009 as the lead role in the Korean hit drama “Brilliant Legacy,” followed by “Dong Yi” in 2010, which won her Best Actress awards at the 2010 MBC Drama Awards and the 47th Baeksang Awards. In 2011, Han starred in the Busan Film Festival opening film “Always.” She then starred opposite Byung Hun Lee in “Masquerade,” which became one of the highest grossing Korean films of all time. Han appeared in the action thriller “Cold Eyes,” one of the biggest hits of 2013, which won her the Best Actress award at the 34th Blue Dragon Awards.
In 2016, Han won the APAN Star Award and MBC Drama Award for Best Actress for her role in “W,” and in 2018, Han appeared opposite Kang Dong Won in the films “Golden Slumber” and Kim Jee Woon’s “Wolf Brigade.” Han has also starred in “Miracle,” “C’est Si Bon” and “The Beauty Inside.”
