Tom Ehlmann

President and General Manager, "NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth / KXAS"

Tom Ehlmann is President and General Manager of NBC 5 / KXAS and Telemundo 39 /KXTX, the NBCUniversal-owned stations serving North Texas in the nation’s fifth largest media market.  In this role, he is responsible for the region’s only English and Spanish-language duopoly, which includes the digital platforms, NBCDFW.com and Telemundo39.com.

Through NBCUniversal’s investment and Tom’s leadership, both NBC 5 and Telemundo 39 have become market leaders operating from a state-of-the-art broadcast facility located in the heart of Dallas-Fort Worth.  Viewers regularly look to the stations for cutting-edge weather forecasting technology that helps improve forecasts on-air, online and in mobile apps.  The KXAS Weather Experts team has been declared “Most Accurate” by WeatheRate seven of the last 10 years.

NBC 5 has been recognized with prestigious awards as a market and industry leader under Ehlmann’s guidance.  In 2017, the station was awarded a George Foster Peabody Award for an extensive, multi-part series on corruption in a local, quasi-governmental agency, which ultimately led to a voter referendum disbanding the organization.  The Radio Television Digital News Association recognized NBC 5 with the national Edward R. Murrow Overall Station Excellence award in the large market television category along with numerous regional awards through the years.

Prior to joining NBCUniversal, Ehlmann was Vice President and General Manager of WGN in Chicago and KHWB in Houston.  He also held several General Sales Manager positions at stations in Houston, Sacramento and St. Louis.

Tom currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Dallas, where he was inducted into that organization’s national Hall of Fame in 2019.  He is a member of the Pro Players Foundation Advisory Board and the North Texas Ad Council.  Tom is a former board member of the Texas Association of Broadcasters, which honored Tom with its “Broadcaster of the Year” award in 2014 for his many contributions to the industry and community.

A graduate of the University of Arizona in Tucson, Tom and his wife Kelly reside in Southlake, Texas and have two children, Krystan and Ryan, and one grandson, Preston.
